Collaborating closely with the exceptionally talented Sonny and Biddy (WBYK) to craft a distinctive and daring illustration style that would energise Athena's visual identity, setting us apart from the overdone norms of the home loan and startup industries.
Idea
We embarked on a style development journey guided by the principles of boldness, human, modern, and game-changing innovation. Shaking up the concept of home loans posed a unique challenge, as the features are often intricate and abstract. We turned to unexpected visual metaphors to breathe life into our illustrations.
We established a set of simple yet powerful visual rules: a split complementary colour scheme injected vibrancy, patterns and gradients introduced depth and visual intrigue, the keyline enhanced flexibility and contrast, and we maintained abstraction by featuring only select human body parts rather than complete figures or faces. This approach served as the perfect complement to our written copy.
Results
After countless iterations, style refinements, and input from stakeholder wives, we released our new distinctive and dynamic style. It exudes confidence and captivates the eye, all while steering clear of the clichéd design trends that risk falling out of fashion. Working closely with Sonny & Biddy was an absolute delight; they empowered us to forge a unique and expansive visual identity that truly stands out as our own.
